Bobcat Fire Update

The widespread devastation has created incredibly hazardous hiking conditions. The winter rains will further destabilize the hillsides, leading to mudslides and trail erosion. As a result, the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue anticipates record numbers of rescues this year. This volunteer organization was founded in 1951 and has performed thousands of rescues since its inception. Your donations support this heroic organization.  You can also support them through their website, https://www.smsr.org/

Sierra Madre Search & Rescue is a group of dedicated volunteers committed to saving lives in the wilderness. Founded in 1951, “The Team” has responded to thousands of calls for help in the wilderness and saved countless lives. Regardless of whether it’s a twisted ankle, a fallen climber, or an overdue hiker, The Team will be there.

Being present at Chantry Flat on weekends and holidays, Friends of the San Gabriels volunteers and employees are the first contact for reports of lost and injured visitors to Big Santa Anita Canyon. We answer the single-line emergency telephone system and we are able to determine the location of the injured before calling SMSR. We also provide aid and comfort to friends and family awaiting an outcome.
